Skype for Pocket PC on UMTS 3G Network

    August 16th, 2006

Lots of buzz around for VoIP on 3G network , here is the exclusive review from msmobiles.com

Skype for Pocket PC in latest version brings even more features of the Skype for PC, although still Skype video calling is not available (although it would be possible due to availability of camera API in Windows Mobile 5.0).

Furthermore to make voice calls with Skype one doesn’t have to have access to Wi-Fi and making voice calls is possible and feasible also over cellular networks! It is pity, that Skype for MS Smartphone is not yet officially available - clearly the reason was lack of MS Smartphone devices with powerful enough processor - but since both Motorola Q and Samsung SGH-i320 already have powerful enough processors it could change if only Skype would be willing to put some effort into it.

Anyway the version of Skype for Pocket PC is a very mature one, particularly in the latest version that we have tested here, and since still there is no Skype for Symbian, it is also a very good reason to buy Windows Mobile phone… if you don’t have one yet!

Also, Tom Keating from TMCnet has a review on latest Skype for Pocket PC 2.1 Beta.

VoIP Calls via Mobile Phone SMS

    August 14th, 2006

Click4Me, a Web-Click Phone-to-Phone service that utilizes VoIP technology for free phone-to-phone calling. Click4Me is available for testing on VoiceOne’s Virtual Lab at http://Labs.VoiceOne.com - an open forum for users to preview, test free of charge, and provide feedback on new IP communications services developed by VoiceOne.

Click4Me integrates the world wide web, VoIP calling, and mediation to existing landline functionality all within one product. Users are not required to use special Instant Messaging, Voice over IP phone service, using your PC as the phone, or anything special to make and receive phone calls thru the service.

With latest addition, anyone can connect to a registered Click4Me member by simply texting “CALL + the member’s username” to the Click4Me SMS address. Within seconds, the caller will be automatically connected to the Click4Me member of their choice, free of charge.

To enable cellular phone users easier access to calling, users with cellular phones wanting to connect to a Click4Me user, can navigate to http://www.click2me.us, which will provide them the ability to enter the users email address or Click4Me id, and with one click connect to that user at no charge.

Features for registered members of the service now include: SMS Text messaging to users, an online Inbox allowing people to leave messages for one another on the Click4Me.Net website, email and SMS text notifications of missed calls or new messages.

Also registered members receive FREE 411 (Directory Assistance) from any cell phone by simply texting “CALL 411″ or just “411″ to the Click4Me SMS address. Members will be automatically connected to Directory Assistance at no charge, compared to the customary $1.50 to $3 plus charged to cell phones for 411 calls. What’s more, the information provided by Directory Assistance can be sent to the caller via SMS Text and saved for later reference.
