Skype for Pocket PC on UMTS 3G Network

    August 16th, 2006

Lots of buzz around for VoIP on 3G network , here is the exclusive review from msmobiles.com

Skype for Pocket PC in latest version brings even more features of the Skype for PC, although still Skype video calling is not available (although it would be possible due to availability of camera API in Windows Mobile 5.0).

Furthermore to make voice calls with Skype one doesn’t have to have access to Wi-Fi and making voice calls is possible and feasible also over cellular networks! It is pity, that Skype for MS Smartphone is not yet officially available - clearly the reason was lack of MS Smartphone devices with powerful enough processor - but since both Motorola Q and Samsung SGH-i320 already have powerful enough processors it could change if only Skype would be willing to put some effort into it.

Anyway the version of Skype for Pocket PC is a very mature one, particularly in the latest version that we have tested here, and since still there is no Skype for Symbian, it is also a very good reason to buy Windows Mobile phone… if you don’t have one yet!

Also, Tom Keating from TMCnet has a review on latest Skype for Pocket PC 2.1 Beta.

    SIP-based Walkie-Talkie on Windows Mobile 5.0

    May 12th, 2006

Pangean Technologies develops and markets innovative, SIP-based VoIP software applications for efficient internal and campus-wide communications for the enterprise market.

Pangean unveiled plans to launch Y-Talk, Pangean’s VoIP mobility solution for internal instant communications. It is expected to be officially released at the end of June 2006. Y-Talk is a SIP-based VoIP software application that transforms any PDA device running Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 or Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 into a “Walkie-Talkie” like device using Push to Talk. Enterprises with the need for a ubiquitous solution that increases employee mobility can use Y-Talk for instant communications “on the go”.

    Key Features:

  • Communicate instantly with your networked associates, no matter where you are, or they are
  • Push-to-Talk – with a direct, “always-on” connection that allows a user to instantly speak to multiple colleagues by simply pushing a “Talk” button
  • Enjoy Wi-Fi Roaming, which allows users to roam across multiple wireless access points without losing their ability to instantly communicate with colleagues
  • Use location-based services to discover the geographical location of other colleagues
  • View the presence information of other colleagues ― in real-time
  • Instantly communicate in a group conference, enabling instant group communications whenever needed
  • Utilize enterprise-wide broadcast - a one-to-many mode of voice communications that allows authorized users to rapidly distribute information over the LAN/WAN
  • Easily create an instantaneous One to One private voice session between any two Y-Talk or insta-REACT! users, anywhere in the world
  • Enable multi-channel Communications — support multiple, concurrent conversations, allowing a user to participate in several conferences at the same time
  • The product targets for hospitals, retailers, warehouses and other environments where internal instant communications and employee mobility is critical, the solution will provide a single interface for presence, push to talk, instant group conference and more.

Pangean has also partnered with Symbol (SBL-NYSE) to integrate Y-Talk on Symbol’s MC50 and MC70 Enterprise Digital Assistants (EDA) and expects to receive certification from Symbol.
