3G Broadband Wireless vs. Wi-Fi Hotspots
The widespread adoption of 3G networks and services could have a big impact on Wi-Fi. But the use of 3G by road warriors. Wi-Fi hotspots could present a threat, which requires users to stay within 300 feet of a hotspot, then 3G Broadband Wireless lets users roam across a large geographical area without having to worry about losing coverage.
Also, 3G Broadband Wireless is very simple to use - you sign up for one account and pay one bill, while relying on Wi-Fi hotspots could easily find you signing up with half a dozen hotspot providers and having to track as many user names and passwords. Wi-Fi operators have been striking roaming agreements to make the process easier, but using Wi-Fi on the road remains an annoyance. Inevitably there’s no hotspot at the one place where you really want to get online.
We will see more argument with those two thchnologies in New Year 2006, Om Malik has his insight on 2006, year of the 3G?
